Front: Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi, named in small capitals up the right edge — the young Margariteña heroine of the independence wars, imprisoned in the fortress of Santa Rosa. She is drawn as a sculpted bust in warm brown against pale green, with orchids and foliage worked into the background. The left panel carries a large ghosted 5000, the value spelled CINCO MIL BOLÍVARES, and the date 18 de agosto de 2016.
Back: Two hawksbill turtles — tortuga carey — swimming over the shallows, with the dry Macanao mountains of Margarita rising behind them; the caption names the Parque Nacional Laguna de la Restinga. The national arms with its white horse sit at the left in deep green. The right-hand panel is plain, holding a star, a small turtle device and a bold 5000 above CINCO MIL BOLÍVARES.ívares.
Part of the high-value extension to the bolívar fuerte family, announced at the end of 2016 and put into circulation in early 2017 as inflation outran the older notes. It lasted barely eighteen months: the bolívar soberano arrived on 20 August 2018 at one hundred thousand to one, and these were withdrawn.
