The artwork

Front: Guaicaipuro in three-quarter profile, named in small capitals up the brown right-hand band — the Teque cacique who led the resistance to the Spanish in the valleys around Caracas. Arrows and indigenous ornament fill the ground behind him. The denomination runs large down the left in the pale unprinted field, above DOS MIL BOLÍVARES, the date 18 de agosto de 2016 and the two bank signatures.

Back: A harpy eagle, labelled Águila Arpía, perched and staring straight out, set against a soft brown landscape of the Ucaima falls and the Venado and Kurún tepuis in Canaima National Park. The national coat of arms sits at the left over columns of small 2000s; the right-hand panel carries 2000 and DOS MIL BOLÍVARES in deep plum.

In circulation

One of the higher denominations rushed out as inflation outran the existing notes, entering circulation from the start of 2017. It lasted barely eighteen months: the reconversion of 20 August 2018 knocked five zeros off the currency and replaced the whole bolívar fuerte family with bolívar soberano notes.
