Front: Mount Everest fills the left panel, drawn from the Khumbu side with snow lying in the gullies — the mountain took the place of the royal portrait after the monarchy ended. Centre, in Devanagari: श्री नेपाल राष्ट्र बैंक, the guarantee of the Government of Nepal, and the value spelled out as रुपैयाँ पचास over a pale green underprint of a carved, many-windowed palace facade. The bank's roundel sits top right above the blank watermark arch; matching Devanagari serials below.
Back: A Himalayan tahr — jharal to Nepalis — stands broadside on stony ground, horns curled back, the long winter mane hanging from throat and shoulder, with bare ridges and snow peaks receding behind it. Above, the national emblem and NEPAL RASTRA BANK in Roman capitals; along the foot, RUPEES FIFTY and the date 2012 A.D. Slate blue throughout, with green ornament in the borders.
The Everest-and-tahr fifty belongs to the republican series that replaced the notes bearing King Gyanendra's portrait, and was printed across several years, this one dated 2012. A redrawn 50-rupee note, with a revised Everest vignette and an updated map of Nepal, took over at the end of the 2010s; the older notes remain legal tender.
