Front: An orangutan — captioned ORANG UTAN — sits on a fallen branch in dense rainforest, drawn in warm browns against a green canopy that fills the left half of the note. BANK INDONESIA runs along the top, LIMA RATUS RUPIAH along the foot, and the garuda arms sit in the upper right corner. Beneath them, a rosette carries the date 1992 with the Direksi signatures of the Gubernur and Direktur.
Back: A rumah adat of East Kalimantan — the caption reads RUMAH ADAT KALIMANTAN TIMUR — a long timber house raised on posts, with a deep shingled roof, carved gable boards and rows of figures worked into the panels, set among tall trees. Opposite it, a green medallion of stylised foliage, and the serial number RFA 068248 printed twice, once in red at the lower left.
Issued from 1992, with printings continuing through the decade — this one carries the Peruri imprint dated 1993. It served alongside the 500-rupiah coin, which steadily took over the denomination as inflation pushed the note out of everyday use, and Bank Indonesia withdrew it from circulation in the following decade.
