The artwork
Front: Salmon and orange over pale green end panels, with "भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक / RESERVE BANK OF INDIA" and the central government guarantee stacked at the top. A big 10 sits in a star-shaped guilloche rosette, flanked by the promise to pay in Hindi and English. Right, the Lion Capital of Ashoka above सत्यमेव जयते; below centre, the Reserve Bank seal with its palm and tiger, and the Governor's signature. Red serials, 23T 107125.
Back: A quiet engraved landscape in red-brown: a low pavilion with arched openings, set back among heavy stands of mature trees, approached by a broad paved causeway running straight to its steps — a formal garden laid out in the Mughal manner. The fifteen-language denomination panel runs down the left edge, with 10 in the corners and दस रुपये beside TEN RUPEES along the foot. A blank oval at right carries the watermark.
In circulation
One of the long-running Lion Capital designs; the signature of S. Venkitaramanan places this printing in the early 1990s. The type was displaced from 1996, when the Mahatma Gandhi series 10-rupee note took over, and the older orange notes were gradually called in through the following years.
