Front: The Effígie da República — a classical female head crowned with laurel, the allegorical figure of the Brazilian Republic that gives the whole Real family its face. Beside her a large red numeral 10, the legend DEUS SEJA LOUVADO, and REAIS in white lettering across a dark band. At right, the rosette-and-star device of the Banco Central, with the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Bank's President beneath. Serial C 3616045180 C.
Back: A macaw in close portrait, engraved head and shoulders with the beak and eye finely lined and the wing feathers loosely sketched behind — labelled simply ARARA. A second large 10 sits below, with DEZ REAIS in a framed panel at the right and CASA DA MOEDA DO BRASIL in small type in the corner. The left third carries a repeat 10 and the Central Bank rosette over the pale watermark field.
Part of the first family of Real notes launched with the currency in July 1994, and a workhorse throughout the following decade. The Banco Central issued a polymer 10 for the quincentenary in 2000, and the paper design was finally superseded by the second-family 10 reais of 2012.
